Description

What the bribe bought

The payments helped get additional housing units approved in the contractor's housing project, through a change to the building plan.

What happened

A contractor from Ashdod, paying through his company, made bribe payments of approximately ILS 1,000,000 to a deputy mayor of Ashdod, who was also a city council member. The payments went to companies linked to the official under a signed services agreement. The contractor booked them as an expense in his company's books. He admitted the bribes in a plea bargain at the Be'er Sheva District Court in September 2017. The court ordered the benefit forfeited and imposed a fine.
